The latest incarnation of the Air Max series continues the tradition of the Hyperfuse upper that began with the shoe’s predecessor. Hyperfuse combines three layers in a hot-melt process that eliminates glue and stitching, creating a composite that is both lighter and stronger than if the layers were joined individually. The 2012 also carries on the series’ mesh, ventilated upper. But it adds translucent overlays and a dyed full-length Max Air unit to freshen the shoe’s aesthetics. In another aesthetic tweak, Nike moved its Swoosh logo back to the lateral (outer) side of the heel assembly. While the renowned Air Max series celebrates an anniversary, so does the Air Max+ 2012’s Waffle outsole, which turns 40. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman cooked up the idea for the now-ubiquitous outsole over breakfast, when he spied his wife’s waffle iron and thought that a similarly studded pattern would make for great traction on a running surface.

Swoosh is the symbol of the Nike shoes and clothing. It is also the most recognizable brand logo in the world.

The Nike "swoosh'" designed in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company, Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).

BRS decided to build its own brand in 1971, while the first product soccer cleat called the Nike, which manufactured in Mexico.
In the spring of 1971, Davidson presented a number of design options to Knight and other BRS executives, and they ultimately selected the mark now known globally as the Swoosh. "I don't love it," Knight told her, "but I think it will grow on me."

In June 1972, the first running shoes of Swoosh were bringing out at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Nike continues to use the brand today.
